Matt Licari

Brooklyn, New York

Since 2011, Matt Licari has maintained a dualist photographic approach: creating both clean studio photographs and intimate, on-location pictures, often switching between the specialized technique of large-format film and handheld digital cameras. This workflow allows him to toggle seamlessly between styles, and deliver a variety of powerful work to commercial brands and editorial magazines alike. His lively personality and enthusiasm for the arts has enabled him to work with celebrities including Tom Hanks, Pete Townshend, R.E.M, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Kathy Griffin, and many more. His clients include National Geographic, Universal Studios, Macy's, Zappos, Nicole Miller, The Associated Press, Nylon, Billboard, The New York Times, Aveda, La Mer, Vince Camuto, and Lord & Taylor. A native of The Bronx, Matt Licari has been making photographs since 2003. He captures close friends, family, and neighborhood street scenes. This combination of portraiture and peripheral environs remains a cornerstone of his work. Licari received his BFA in Photography from SUNY Purchase College, and has worked for the Richard Avedon Foundation and the Guggenheim Museum.
